All Is Ablaze

The age-old truth persists: life embodies suffering, a painful existence as the prevailing norm rather than an exception. Maturing equates to grappling with this agonizing reality.
Inevitably, cherished individuals depart, heartbreaks harden our emotions, and our perceptions of possession shatter into illusion. Ephemeral nature prevails; this harsh realism aligns with Buddhism's foundational Noble Truth. "All is ablaze," the Buddha declared.
A man who lived in a protective bubble for 29 years ventured out one day and discovered the four Messengers: a corpse, a sickly person, an aging person, and a lonely hermit.
These entities conveyed life's bleak certainties: death, ailment, aging, and isolation. A stark understanding dawned - evasion from these certainties proves futile. As countless narratives recount, his journey set sail from here. Over six years, he pursued enlightenment. What unfurled before the Buddha was chilling and profound: trauma stands intrinsic to existence.
Trauma thrusts one into a realm of the impersonal, arbitrary, and contingent facets of reality, laying bare one's powerlessness.
Dissociation, then, emerges as a survival tactic, yet its grip confines us, freezing our temporal progression and barricading us from love. The Buddha's odyssey wasn't rooted in conquering emotions, but in grappling with them.
Through mindfulness and curiosity, he nurtured a sanctuary within himself, a relational haven. He embraced anguish without judgment, fostering room for transformation.
Curiosity encourages exploration of one's internal landscape, an impartial vantage unshackled from the confines of rigid mental patterns.
Contemplating past trauma might unleash torrents of negativity, but concurrently unearths the hidden landscapes within. By acknowledging suffering, one unearths insight, recognizing the communal tether of affliction that forges heightened humanity, empathy, and sagacity.
Despite life's agony, the sole exit from its clutches threads through confronting it head-on, almost madly. Through that insane existence, madness arises as the only solution to suffering.
